Opera by Giovanni Bottesini (libretto by Arrigo Boito, at first intended for himself), first produced at the Teatro Regio, Turin, Italy, on 11 January 1879.

The opera of the same title by Luigi Mancinelli (libretto by Boito) was first produced as a cantata at the Norwich Festival, England, on 8 October 1896; its first stage production was at the Teatro Real, Madrid, Spain, on 30 November 1897.
