Caldwell

City in southwestern Idaho, USA, on the Boise River, 39 km/24 mi west of Boise and 24 km/15 mi south of the Oregon border; seat of Canyon County; population (1990) 18,400. In an agricultural area, the city is a processing and shipping point, with creameries, meat and poultry packing plants, stockyards, fruit packing and dehydrating plants, and a winery. An important industry is the manufacture is mobile homes.

Caldwell is the seat of the College of Idaho (1891).

Caldwell

Township in Essex County, northeastern New Jersey, USA, 14 km/9 mi northwest of Newark; population (1990) 7,500. It has a substantial office-building industry, and manufactures including pharmaceuticals, plastics, clothing, and airplane parts.

Grover Cleveland's birthplace (1837) is a State Historic Site. The township is the seat of Caldwell College (1939). North Caldwell (population (1990) 6700) and West Caldwell are close by.
