erysipelas

In medicine, an acute disease of the skin due to infection by a streptococcus bacterium. Starting at some point where the skin is broken (usually on the face or scalp) or injured, the infection spreads, producing a swollen red patch with small blisters and generalized fever. The condition is now rare.
