Wolfram von Eschenbach (c. 1170–c. 1220)

German Minnesinger. He took part in a singing contest at Wartburg in 1207. Seven lyric poems by him survive, without music, though two tunes are ascribed to him. He wrote an epic, Parzival, which was the principal source for Wagner's Parsifal. He appears as a character in Wagner's earlier opera, Tannhäuser.
