Esclarmonde

Opera by Jules Massenet (libretto by E Blau and L de Gramont), first produced at the Opéra-Comique, Paris, France, on 15 May 1889. In the story, Esclarmonde, daughter of the king of Byzantium, uses magic powers to seduce the knight Roland. She is later exorcized and forced to renounce him, but Roland wins her back at a tournament, becoming king.
