Espanola

Town in Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties, north New Mexico; population (2000) 9,700. It is situated on the Rio Grande, 32 km/20 mi north-northwest of Santa Fe. A ranching and farming community, it produces chillies and vegetables, timber, fruit, livestock, and wool. The nearby Los Alamos National Laboratory provides employment. The town is home to the Northern New Mexico Community College (1909).

Nearby attractions include the Bandelier National Monumentto the southwest, the Puye Cliff Dwellings to the west, and the Pojoaque, Nambé San Ildefonso, San Juan, and Santa Clara pueblos.
