Esson, (Thomas) Louis (Buvelot) (1878-1943)

Australian dramatist and freelance writer born in Edinburgh, Scotland. His plays were distinctively Australian in setting and include Dead Timber (1911), The Bride of Gospel Place (1911), and The Drovers (1920). In 1921, with his wife, Dr Hilda Bull, he helped set up the Pioneer Players Movement, a company dedicated to performing Australian plays.

Esson published two collections of poetry and also contributed to Table Talk, the Bulletin, Lone Hand, and the Socialist.

He settled in Victoria as a child and began his career as a freelance journalist and member of the Victorian Socialist Party.
