Cary Elwes is Nazi propaganda filmmaker Fritz Hippler, whose most famous work, ``The Eternal Jew,'' is shown in part in the miniseries. Nasty Nazi movies like The Eternal Jew were made to foment anti-Semitism, but they're sometimes shown today to fan fears of bigotry. The very fact that the Nazis subsequently used Beckert's impassioned self-defense in their anti-Semitic propaganda film The Eternal Jew, acknowledged but not sufficiently theorized by Tatar, militates against her conclusion that the speech draws audiences to the murderer's side. |
