US composer. His music is influenced by serialism and shows concern for textural elements.

He studied at the Cleveland Institute and with Paul Hindemith at Yale University, and he taught at Smith College 1949-73.

Orchestral

two sinfoniettas (1940, 1941), concerto for orchestra (1957), concerto for wind quintet and orchestra (1962), concerto for string quartet and orchestra (1968).

Chamber

concerto for cello and chamber group (1971), concerto for violin and wind quintet (1958), two string quartets (1963, 1965).
