Etobicoke

City in the Toronto Metropolitan Municipality, south Ontario, Canada; population (1991) 310,000. It is situated on Lake Ontario and the Humber River. Etobicoke was created by the consolidation, in 1967, of the township of Etobicoke with the lakeside towns of Mimico and New Toronto and town of Long Branch. The city houses diversified industries, including a large rubber and tire plant, largely on the west side. The Mimico Creek and the west branch of the Humber River both have substantial parkland along them. Largely residential districts include Islington, Rexdale, and Thistletown. The Woodbine Race Track is in the northwest.
