Ettinghausen, Richard

Ettinghausen, Richard (1906–1979)

German-born US art historian and museum curator. He worked at the American Institute for Persian Art and Archaeology, New York City, and the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. A noted scholar of Islamic art, he wrote many books on the subject.

He was born in Frankfurt am Main and studied at the University of Frankfurt, the University of Munich, and at Cambridge, England. He was associated with several prestigious institutions, including the Smithsonian's Freer Gallery, Washington, DC.
