Ettrick

River in Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders unitary authorities, Scotland, rising in the southwest on Capel Fell at a height of 677 m/2,221 ft, and flowing over 50 km/31 mi northeast before joining the River Tweed 5 km/3 mi below Selkirk. Its main tributary is the River Yarrow.

The course of the Ettrick passes through an area full of literary associations: the novelist and poet James Hogg, known as the ‘Ettrick Shepherd’ was born in Ettrick Forest; and Deloraine, which recalls the hero of Walter Scott's Lay of the Last Minstrel 1805, lies in the river's upper reaches, below the village of Buccleuch.

Ettrick
