Eureka Springs

Town and administrative headquarters of Carroll County, northwest Arkansas; population (1990) 1,900. It is located 51 km/32 mi northeast of Fayetteville, near the Missouri state border, on the Springfield Plateau section of the Ozarks. Used earlier by American Indians, the mineral springs here prompted the creation in the 1870s of a well-known spa, which today is also a tourist centre drawing visitors interested in regional folklife and crafts. The huge ‘Christ of the Ozarks’ statue is on nearby Magnetic Mountain.
