European Championship

Football competition contested every four years by the national teams of European countries, first staged in 1960. The competition consists of two rounds: a preliminary group round in which teams, divided into groups of five or six, play others in their group to decide who goes through to the final, which comprises a group stage followed by a knock-out stage.

Spain beat Germany 1–0 to win the 2008 European Championship.
