European Community

Collective term for the European Economic Community (EEC), the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). The EC is now a separate legal entity within the European Union (EU), which was established under the Maastricht Treaty (1992) and includes intergovernmental cooperation on security and judicial affairs.
