Eurythmics, The

British synth–pop duo formed in 1981, comprising Scottish singer and songwriter Annie Lennox (1954– ) and English guitarist Dave Stewart (1952– ). Their songs include ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’ (1982), a hit in the UK and USA, ‘Here Comes the Rain Again’ (1983), and ‘Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves’ (1985).

The album Greatest Hits was released by the band in 1991, after which both Lennox and Stewart pursued successful solo careers; Stewart as a producer and songwriter, and Lennox as a solo artist. Lennox released Diva in 1992. The band reformed in 1999 and released the album Peace, as well as receiving a Brit award for their outstanding contribution to British music.
