Evans, Nancy (1915–2000)

English mezzo. She studied in Liverpool and with Maggie Teyte. From 1939 she sang at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, and appeared as Britten's Lucretia at Glyndebourne in 1946. She created Nancy in Albert Herring (1947) and toured widely with the English Opera Group in Britten's operas. She premiered A Charm of Lullabies in 1948, and was awarded a CBE in 1991.
