Everdingen, Allart van (1621-1675)

Dutch landscape painter and etcher. He introduced into Dutch art the romantic ruggedness of Scandinavian scenery - as in Norwegian Waterfall (Staatliche Museen, Berlin) - inspiring Jacob van Ruisdael to paint similar subjects.

He studied under the Flemish painter Roelandt Savery, and travelled in Norway and Sweden. Another example of his landscapes is his Swedish Landscape (Boymans-van Beuningen Museum, Rotterdam).
