It is situated at the mouth of the Snohomish River, on Puget Sound, 40 km/25 mi north-northeast of Seattle. Other industries include salmon canning, poultry and frozen food packaging, and the processing of dairy products. Everett Community College (1941) is in the city. Settled in 1862, Everett was laid out in 1890 as the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
