Everly Brothers, the

    0.01 sec.

Everly Brothers, the

US pop duo. Their close bluegrass harmonies suited both sentimental ballads, such as ‘Ebony Eyes’ (1961), and upbeat rock songs, such as ‘Bird Dog’ (1958). Their string of significant hits began with ‘Bye Bye Love’ (1957) and ended with ‘The Price of Love’ (1965).

Don Everly (1937– ) and his brother Phil (1939– ) came from a Kentucky family of country musicians and first recorded in 1956. They wrote some of their own biggest hits – ‘('Til) I Kissed You’ (1959), ‘Cathy's Clown’ (1960) – but much of their material was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, including ‘Wake Up, Little Susie’ (1957) and ‘All I Have to Do Is Dream’ (1958). The Everly Brothers broke up in 1973, but reunited ten years later. In 2001, they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
