Everly Brothers, the

    0.03 sec.

Everly Brothers, the

US pop duo. Their close bluegrass harmonies suited both sentimental ballads, such as ‘Ebony Eyes’ (1961), and upbeat rock songs, such as ‘Bird Dog’ (1958). Their string of significant hits began with ‘Bye Bye Love’ (1957) and ended with ‘The Price of Love’ (1965).

Don Everly (1937- ) and his brother Phil (1939- ) came from a Kentucky family of country musicians and first recorded in 1956. They wrote some of their own biggest hits - ‘('Til) I Kissed You’ (1959), ‘Cathy's Clown’ (1960) - but much of their material was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, including ‘Wake Up, Little Susie’ (1957) and ‘All I Have to Do Is Dream’ (1958). The Everly Brothers broke up in 1973, but reunited ten years later. In 2001, they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Like other family bands, such as the Everly Brothers, the Beach Boys, the Black Crowes and Hanson, the Garza brothers -- Henry on guitar, Jojo on bass, and Ringo on drums -- boast natural vocal harmonies that help form a distinctive style.
There's just a certain something extra in the Everly Brothers, the Beach Boys, the Allman Brothers or the Marx Brothers, for that matter, to name a few cases.
