Eversley

Village in northeastern Hampshire, England; population (2001) 2,600. Bramshill House, built in the early 17th-century Jacobean style, is nearby.

The Victorian author Charles Kingsley was rector of Eversley from 1844 until his death in 1875, and is buried in the churchyard. He founded the village school in 1853.

Charles Kingsley (1819-1875) spent most of his life, by his own self-renouncing choice, as curate and rector of the little Hampshire parish of Eversley, though for some years he also held the professorship of history at Cambridge.
