Evert, Chris(tine) Marie (1954– )

US tennis player. She won her first Wimbledon title in 1974, and won 21 Grand Slam titles in total. She became the first woman tennis player to win $1 million in prize money. She had an outstanding two-handed backhand and was a great exponent of baseline technique. Evert retired from competitive tennis in 1989.

From 1974 to 1989 she never failed to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. She married British Davis Cup player John Lloyd in 1979 but they later divorced.
