Ewen, David (1907–1985)

US writer on music. He moved to the USA in 1912 and studied in New York. He worked at the University of Miami from 1965. In 50 years he published more than 80 music reference books, notably Dictators of the Baton (1943), Encyclopedia of the Opera (1955, revised 1971), The World of 20th-Century Music (1968), Composers Since 1900 (1969), Musicians Since 1900 (1978), and US Composers (1982).
