extraordinary general meeting

General meeting held by company separate from the annual general meeting. EGMs may be called by directors, or by shareholders with a sufficiently large shareholding. Departing auditors also have the right to call an EGM. Examples of matters dealt with at EGMs include approving a rights issue or voting on the appointment of directors.
