Faccio, Franco (1840–1891)

Italian conductor and composer. He studied at the Milan Conservatory, and produced his first opera there and his second at La Scala in 1863. He was appointed professor of harmony at the Conservatory in 1868, and was later conductor at the Carcano and Scala theatres. He was Verdi's conductor for Aïda and Otello in Milan, in 1872 and 1887. He also conducted the first performances of the revised versions of Simon Boccanegra (1881) and Don Carlos (1884), and the first performance of La Gioconda (1876).
