Fainsod, Merle

Fainsod, Merle (1907–1972)

US Russia specialist and educator. In addition to academic work, he held several government posts. His many books and articles focused largely on Russia and the Soviet Bloc.

Born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, he taught government at Harvard, was director of the Russian Research Center there, and directed the university library. He was staff member of President Franklin Roosevelt's Committee on Administrative Management, price executive for the US Office of Price Administration, and director of the department's retail trade and services division.
