Fairbanks, Douglas (Elton Ulman), Sr (1883–1939)

US actor. He played acrobatic, swashbuckling heroes in silent films such as The Mark of Zorro (1920), The Three Musketeers (1921), Robin Hood (1922), The Thief of Bagdad (1924), and Don Quixote (1925). He was married to the film star Mary Pickford 1920–35. In 1919 they founded United Artists with Charlie Chaplin and D W Griffith.

He was the father of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr, who appeared in similar film roles.
