Fall, Albert (1861–1944)

US civil servant who was involved in the Teapot Dome Scandal in the 1920s, which exposed US president Harding's administration to allegations of corruption. As an official at the department of the interior, Fall was responsible for letting private companies exploit oil deposits on federal land, arguing that it was in the interest of the government. His own wealth grew through loans from oil executives, delivered in ‘a little black bag’. Fall was tried and imprisoned in 1929.
