World Series

Annual baseball competition between the National League (NL) and American League (AL) champions. It is a best-of-seven series played each October. The first World Series was played in 1903 (as a best-of-nine series) and the AL's Boston Pilgrims defeated the NL's Pittsburgh Pirates in eight games.
