Falls Church

Town lying between Fairfax and Arlington counties, north Virginia; population (1990) 9,600. It is located 13 km/8 mi west of Washington, DC, and is a residential suburb. The area was settled in the 18th century; the Falls Church was built in 1734 on the road to the nearby Little Falls on the Potomac River. A second church on the site, constructed in 1767–69, still stands.
