Chamaecyparis

Any of a genus of six hardy, evergreen coniferous trees closely related to and often included in the genus Cupressus in family Cupressaceae. They are chiefly found in North America and East Asia. All are valuable timber and ornamental trees. They have flat, fern-shaped, scale-like leaves.

Lawsons's Cypress C. lawsoniana can grow to 50 m/200 ft; it is very variable with over 250 distinctive cultivars. The Nootka cypress or yellow cedar C. nootkatensis, is native to Alaska and Vancouver. The Japanese cypresses Sawara C. pisifera and Hinoki C. obtusa have numerous cultivars, including dwarf, yellow-leaved, and blue-leaved forms.

False cypress is a joy to use as it varies in texture, color and form thus providing a mind-blowing range of possibilities.
I watched an animal watching me as it showered under the sprinkler between the dwarf false cypress and a lady's mantle I peered at it and watched in the failing light and thought it peered at me but it was only a clod in shadow.
