Falster

Danish island off the south coast of Sjaelland in the Baltic Sea; area 518 sq km/200 sq mi; part of the county of Storstrøm. Falster is 48 km/20 mi long and 3–20 km/2–12 mi wide. It is joined to Sjaelland and Lolland, an island to the west, by bridges. The soil is fertile, the climate milder and sunnier than in the rest of Denmark, and the white sandy beaches attract holidaymakers. The principal town is Nyköbing.
