Farhi, Nicole (1946– )

French fashion designer who works in the UK. She produces understated easy-to-wear styles in natural earth-tone fabrics and knitwear. She began designing for Stephen Marks and his mainstream fashion label French Connection, and launched her own label in 1983. She opened shops in London (1994) and New York (1999), both with restaurants.

At the British Fashion Awards in 1992 she won Designer of the Year and Knitwear Designer of the Year.

In 1989 she launched a menswear collection, with soft unstructured jackets and casual separates.
