Faribault

Town and administrative headquarters of Rice County, southeast Minnesota; population (2000) 20,800. It is situated at the junction of the Cannon and Straight rivers, 56 km/35 mi northeast of Mankato. Established in 1826, it now manufactures heating and air-conditioning equipment, ice cube makers, woollens, plastics, office machines, and computer parts. The Minnesota State Braille and Sight-Saving School and Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf are in the town.
