Farinelli

Farinelli (1705–1782)

Italian castrato. He was a pupil of Porpora, in whose Eumene he made his debut in Rome in 1721. He sang with great success in many European cities, including Vienna and London, and was in the service of the European court 1737–59, singing every night in private for Philip V, then Ferdinand VI. He retired to Bologna.
