Farkas, Ferenc (1905–2000)

Hungarian composer. After travelling to enlarge his experience and holding two posts at provincial schools of music, he was professor of composition at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Budapest 1949–75.

He studied at the Budapest Conservatory and with Ottorino Respighi in Rome.

Stage

opera The Magic Cupboard (1942), A Gentleman from Venice (produced in Budapest, 1991); musical plays and operettas; ballet Three Vagabonds; incidental music (including Shakespeare's Timon of Athens, As You Like It, and Romeo and Juliet).

Other

cantata Fountain of St John; symphonies and other orchestral works, chamber music, piano music, songs.
