Farman, Henry (1874–1958)

Anglo-French aviation pioneer. He designed a biplane 1907–08 and in 1909 flew a record distance of 160 km/100 mi.

With his brother Maurice Farman (1878–1964), he founded an aircraft works at Billancourt, Brittany, supplying the army in France and other countries. The UK also made use of Farman's inventions, for example, air-screw reduction gears, in World War II.
