Farmers Branch

Town in Dallas County, northeast Texas; population (1990) 24,300. It is located to the northwest of Dallas and 18 km/11 mi from the city centre. This residential suburb was settled in 1841; the first church and school in Dallas County were built here, and in the 1840s, advertisements in Europe attracted colonists to its rich farmland. The modern community dates from the 1950s. Brookhaven College (1965) is here, as are dozens of corporate offices and some light manufacturing facilities.
