Farmville

Town and administrative headquarters of Prince Edward County, and partly located in Cumberland County, south-central Virginia; population (1990) 6,000. It is situated 66 km/42 mi east of Lynchburg, on the Appomattox River. Farmville has tobacco storage facilities and lumber mills. It is home to Longwood College (1839).
