Farnol, John Jeffrey (1878-1952)

English novelist. His successful picaresque romance The Broad Highway 1910 was followed by The Amateur Gentleman 1913, The Chronicles of the Imp 1915, and Our Admirable Betty 1918.

Other flamboyant novels include Beltane the Smith 1915, The Geste of Duke Jocelyn 1919, Peregrine's Progress 1922, and The Loring Mystery 1925.

Farnol was born in Aston, Warwickshire. He studied art and for two years worked as a scene painter at the Astor Theatre, New York, before returning to England and taking up a writing career.
