Farrell, Suzanne (1945- )

US ballet dancer. She won a scholarship to the School of American Ballet and, after only six months gained a place in the New York City Ballet's corps de ballet. In 1962, she became a featured dancer and, by 1965, she was a principal dancer. She became artistic director of the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Washington, DC, in 2001.

Farrell was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She won her scholarship following an audition for George Balanchine and he later choreographed several dances for her, including Variations (1966). She taught a masters class at the University of Cincinnati, and on her retirement from the New York City Ballet, taught at the School of American Ballet.
