Fasanella, Ralph (1914–1997)

US painter. Entirely self-taught, his early work mainly depicts simple scenes of city life in a primitivist style. In his later work, such as The Iceman Crucified (1958), he developed a more Symbolist approach.

He was born in New York City, and, after many years as a union organizer for the United Electrical Workers, he took up painting in 1944.
