Fasano, Renato (1902–1979)

Italian composer and conductor. In 1948 he founded the Collegium Musicum Italicum. From 1972 he was responsible for a complete edition of the sacred works of Vivaldi.

He studied in Naples. In 1952 and 1957 the Collegium Musicum Italicum split into two groups dedicated to the performance of 18th-century Italian music: I Virtuosi di Roma and Piccolo Teatro Musicale Italiano. The latter group toured in Europe and the USA with operas by Giovanni Paisiello, Giovanni Pergolesi, and Baldassare Galuppi. Fasano was director of the Rome Conservatory 1960–72.
