Fasch, Carl Friedrich

    0.01 sec.

Fasch, Carl Friedrich (Christian) (1736–1800)

German harpsichordist and composer. He was appointed second harpsichordist (with C P E Bach) to the court of Frederick the Great in 1756, but the outbreak of the Seven Years' War (1756–63) cost him his position and forced him to live by teaching. In 1791 he founded the Berlin Singakademie, the choral society which he conducted until his death.

He was a pupil of his father, Johann Friedrich Fasch, and later of Johann Hertel in Strelitz. He was conductor of the court opera in Berlin 1774–76.

Works

oratorio Giuseppe riconosciuto (1774), Mass for 16 voices, cantatas, psalms, and other church music; also some instrumental music.
