Fashoda Incident

Dispute in 1898 in the town of Fashoda (now Kodok) situated on the White Nile in southeastern Sudan, in which a clash between French and British forces nearly led the two countries into war.

The attitude of the opposing commander allowed for discussion to take place and a political solution to be found, making a turning point in Anglo-French relations which led ultimately to the Entente Cordiale 1904.
