Fauchet, Claude (1530–1601)| French critic and historian. He was historiographer (‘official historian’) of France under Henry IV. He wrote Antiquités gauloises et françaises jusqu'à Clovis (1579–99) and Recueil de l'origine de la langue et poésie française (1581), by which he may be considered to be the first French historian of literature. |
