FDDI

In computing, a series of network protocols, developed by the American National Standards Institute, concerned with high-speed networks using fibre optic cable. See also optical fibres.

Coordinating all marketing and development activities, the IFA Educational Foundation links FDDI into its existing MinorityFran program.
For many years FDDI was the network technology of choice for high-speed, fault-tolerant backbone networks because of its simple plug-and-play attributes, self-configuring redundancy feature, and widespread market acceptance.
The system updates data every few minutes and supports ATM, VLAN and Fast EtherChannel networks, as well as LAN, T1/E1, T3/E3, Fast Ethernet, FDDI, and Token Ring network protocols.
