Federal Reserve SystemUS central banking system and note-issuing authority, established in 1913 to regulate the country's credit and monetary policy. The USA has a federal banking system comprised of 12 regional Federal Reserve banks and all their member banks. The 12 banks are situated in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Kansas City, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, San Francisco, and St Louis. The system is governed by the seven-member Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC, appointed by the president with Senate approval.

As of December 10, 2005, the Oklahoma City Branch office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City will no longer process checks, and depository institutions that were assigned to that office have been reassigned to the head office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. They are the directors of the Los Angeles branch of the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco, and they report monthly on important trends in the regional economy. A penny saved is a penny earned, but too many pennies saved is a big problem for the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia. |
