FTC

US anti-monopoly organization (see monopoly). The FTC enforces federal antitrust and consumer protection laws. Its responsibilities fall under three categories: statutes relating to both the competition and consumer protection missions; statutes relating principally to the competition mission; and statutes relating principally to the consumer protection mission. In general, the Commission seeks to ensure that US markets function competitively and are vigorous, efficient, and free of undue restrictions, and that actions that threaten consumers' opportunities to exercise informed choices are eliminated.
