Feinstein, Dianne (1933- )| US Democrat politician. She was mayor of San Francisco 1978-88, the first woman in the post, and became senator from California 1993. |
| She was born in San Francisco. An expert on criminal justice, she was appointed to the California Women's Board of Terms and Paroles 1962, elected to the Board of Supervisors 1969, and was its president 1970-72 and 1974-76. In December 1978, following the assassination of Mayor George Moscone (1949-1978), she was elected to finish Moscone's term as mayor to the end of 1979, and then re-elected mayor.
